To ensure activities are age appropriate and campers are comfortable, campers are placed in groups by similar grade level and with a mix of genders whenever possible. Since campers can sign up for one or several sessions, groups will vary each session. Child-to-counselor ratios are regulated by the Department of Health and group size may vary depending on the ages of the campers as well as the staff member assigned to the group. Care goes into creating groups that meet our guidelines as well as the safe ratios, as such it is typically not possible to accommodate changes to groups.
Group Request Philosophy
At InspireWorks Enrichment, we feel strongly that making new friends and getting to know people with different life experiences is one of the great benefits of the summer camp experience. Camp is an amazing place to meet new friends and try new things in a safe and supported environment. We understand that friends are excited to attend camp together, but it can be difficult for our staff to build a cohesive group identity and sense of community with both campers who are already friends and campers who are attending alone or for the first time. We’ve also found campers who rely on pre-existing close friendships often do not fully engage in the camp community experience and are less likely to develop a sense of independence or make new friends.
With the goal of providing the best camp experience for everyone, it is our policy to not accommodate group requests for InspireWorks Enrichment programming.
While groups are a key component of the camp experience, there are several times a day (pre/post camp, swimming, meals, all-camp round-up, etc.) when campers may have the opportunity to spend quality time with friends from other groups. We hope you understand our philosophy and the reasoning behind this policy. Counselors are trained to teach and support your campers in developing these important skills and it is our hope that the lessons they learn will benefit them long after the camp season is over.
